Awakening the Five Champions: Helping Young People Build the Strengths Technology Can’t Give Them

By Brian Razzino, Ph.D. | Second Edition

ABOUT THE BOOK

Young people are growing up with powerful tools at their fingertips. But technology cannot build courage, judgment, empathy, connection, or a sense of purpose for them. Those strengths develop through experience, reflection, and relationships.

In the second edition of Awakening the Five Champions, licensed clinical psychologist Dr. Brian Razzino gives young people a way to recognize and strengthen five capacities within themselves: the Warrior, Wizard, Healer, Lover, and Seeker. Drawing on over three decades of clinical experience, he uses memorable characters, relatable examples, and practical exercises to help readers understand their emotions, face challenges, connect with others, and make thoughtful choices.

The book also introduces the Mastermind, which helps young people bring these strengths together and decide which one a situation calls for. Written for young people and the adults who support them, Awakening the Five Champions offers a framework for growing into capable, connected human beings in an age of screens and AI.

KEY THEMES

  • The Warrior: Courage, persistence, and taking action when something is difficult.

  • The Lover: Connection, trust, and building meaningful relationships.

Together, these capacities help young people build strengths they can use at school, at home, in relationships, and throughout their lives.
